San Diego Memorial Day Senior Baseball Tournament

2017 Hotels

Note: This year our tournament will not offer hotels discounted through the SD Sports Commission. We intend to get players better pricing and more options in exchange for their time. Recent hotel expeiences in San Diego have been poor and embarassing to your tournament director. Part of the problem is the hotel industry transitioning to demand pricing. Another is the summer pricing, which starts around May 15 at most San Diego area hotels. Many players were able to obtain rates substantially lower than our discounted (but risky) block pricing. We will list a number of hotels and areas that you can research for yourself and obtain better pricing. In general, like the airline industry, the earlier you book the better your rate (for sure rates will go up as hotels are booked). But you can also benefit by last-minute booking lower rates when hotels do not sell out.

Trivago has shaken up the hotel industry. When I personally visited local hotels this year, after I negotiated guaranteed blocks of hotel rooms and got back home from my trip, I found lower prices on Trivago. I recommend you use these four tools to book your stay. I'll list areas to search below and list a number of hotels I have either visited or recommend with low to high price ranges. Consider staying Thursday night or the following Tuesday so you can enjoy other local attractions.

Mission Valley hotels are still the most centrally located, but there are more options. When booking hotels using searches like Google or Trivago, look for hotels in these locations:
North County (Palomar College, Escondido HS) - San Marcos, Econdido
North County beach hotels (coast is 15 miles east - Carlsbad (nicer), Oceanside

Some known hotels I would recommend in these areas are:
North County Coastal (between Palomar College and UCSD):
